What  is  Somatic
experiencing ?

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle, body-based therapy designed to help people recover from trauma, chronic stress, and overwhelm.

Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing is based on the understanding that trauma isn’t just stored in the mind — it’s also held in the nervous system and the body.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle, body-led approach to healing that honours your natural capacity to restore balance.

Rather than focusing only on thoughts or retelling difficult experiences, this work invites you to slow down and listen to the quiet language of your body. When we experience stress or trauma, our nervous system can become stuck in patterns of fight, flight or freeze. Over time, this can show up as anxiety, overwhelm, tension, fatigue, or a feeling of being disconnected from yourself.

How  can  it  help?

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) offers a compassionate space to gently unwind these patterns.

In our sessions, we move at your pace. Through simple awareness of sensations, breath, and subtle shifts in the body, your nervous system is supported to complete what it couldn’t at the time due to overwhelm or survival coming first. There is no pressure to relive or retell — only an invitation to notice, with curiosity and kindness.

Over time, many people begin to feel more grounded, more resilient, and more at ease in themselves.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is not about fixing you — because you are not broken. It is about helping your body remember its innate wisdom for regulation, safety and balance. Gently bringing your nervous system out of fixity and into flow.

Simply put, Somatic Experiencing® (SE) helps your body learn that the danger has passed — so you can feel more settled, grounded, and in control again.

This approach can support:

  • Anxiety and persistent stress

  • Trauma (recent or from long ago)

  • Burnout and overwhelm

  • Emotional sensitivity

  • Feeling stuck or disconnected

  • Physical tension linked to stress

My  Approach

My approach weaves together trauma-informed yoga, Somatic Experiencing® (SE) principles, and my own lived experience.

At the heart of my work is a deep respect for your nervous system. I understand — both professionally and personally — that healing is not something that can be forced. It unfolds gently, in its own time, when we feel safe enough.

Trauma-informed yoga offers choice, agency and awareness. There is no pressure to perform, no expectation to “get it right.” Instead, we explore simple movements, breath, and moments of stillness as invitations — not instructions. You are always in control of your experience.

Alongside this, I draw on body-based awareness practices that support nervous system regulation. We might notice subtle sensations, shifts in breath, or the feeling of your feet on the ground. These small moments of awareness help rebuild trust between mind and body.

My lived experience allows me to hold this work with empathy and authenticity. I know that healing is rarely linear. I know the courage it takes to slow down and turn inward. And I know that even in the most difficult seasons, the body holds an innate capacity for resilience.

Together, this blend creates a space that is steady, compassionate and grounded. A space where you don’t need to push or strive — only to begin where you are.

This work isn’t about fixing you. It’s about supporting you to reconnect with your own wisdom, at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.

Katie has a presence that is gentle, reassuring and compassionate... Holding trauma in the body can shape your ‘way of coping and/or managing stress and in my case it wasn’t always in my best interest. [It] has opened up new ways that are more aligned with a healthier mindset and wellbeing.
